Paving the way for Clear Cutting?

Well, it looks like scientists (possibly without realizing it) are paving the way for legislation to clear cut.  Why do I say that? Here are a couple clips from the article:

Then, in the laboratory and in the wild, the scientists looked at the release of gases from living plants like maize and ryegrass. In this investigation, it turned out that living plants let out some 10 to 1000 times more methane than dead plant material. The researchers then were able to show that the rate of methane production grew drastically when the plants were exposed to the sun.

That means that about 10 to 30 percent of present annual methane production comes from plants. The largest portion of that - about two-thirds - originates from tropical areas, because that is where the most biomass is located.

fuck the dumb shit, so what if methane gets produced? so does oxygen, and thats the important one!!!!!
the trees have survived longer on this earth than humans, so I think they had a better understanding of how the world should operate.
just my opinion

Maybe they are missing the real problem. Maybe the issue isn't whether CO2 or CH4 is being produced -- maybe we are missing whatever it is that would feed on the CH4.

Archaea in the ocean, for example, consume methane.

Also, burning one molecule of CH4 in the presence of O2 creates 1xCO2 and 2xH2O... so, wouldn't lightning, for example, convert methane into carbon dioxide (which plants consume) and water (which plants consume)?

So I guess what we need to do is genetically engineer an animal that can fly around tree tops, feeds on methane, and shoots lighting out of its ass.
