Bora Bora: French Polynesia

Bora Bora French Polynesia locator map and information page by World Atlas

I have been thinking lately about where I would go the next time I could afford to travel. I *really* liked the Caribbean, but I also heard really good things about Bora Bora... perhaps we might go there.

On-Demand Publishing

Well, as some of you know, EOTI is looking at starting with On-Demand publishing. I just sent my initial list of sizes to the printers to get our cost matrix. Hopefully we will be able to start offering the service sometime in the next few months. I still need to design a good site for it -- and am debating whether I should host it at some place like ServerBeach so that we don't have to use my DSL while we locate office space. We'll see.

Where has our time for nurturing friendships gone?

Well, I received this from my sister, so thought I should just answer here so that I could pass the URL instead of retying it if anyone else passes it to me :)

Where has our time for nurturing friendships gone?
Welcome to the summer 2004 edition of getting to know your friends.
What you are supposed to do is copy (not forward) this entire e-mail
and paste it onto a new e-mail that you'll send. Change all the answers
so they apply to you, and then send this to some friends including the
person who sent it to you. The theory is that you will learn a lot of little
things about your friends, if you did not know them already...

1. What time do you get up? Alarm goes off at 6:00, 6:15, and 6:30. By then we hope to be up so Dino can get to work on time.

2. If you could eat lunch with one person, who would it be? My wife

3. Silver or Gold? Platinum

4. What was the last film you saw at the movies? Spider Man 2 and The Manchurian Candidate

5. What is your favorite TV show? Stargate [SG1 and Atlantis], Dead Zone, Daily Show, Smallville, Dark Angel, Buffy, Angel, Star Trek, Celebrity Poker, Nip Tuck, etc etc

6. What did you have for breakfast? What's that?

7. Who would you hate to be stuck in a room with? People who annoy the fuck out of me

9. What is your middle name? none any more

10. Beach, City or Country? Tropical Beaches (a'la Jamaica)

11. Favorite ice cream? I really like lots of flavors, but I think I would have to go with French Vanilla because it gives me more consumption options

12. Butter, plain or salted popcorn? If I eat it (rarely), butter + salt

13. Favorite color? Black

14. What kind of car do you drive? 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS

15. Favorite sandwich? Burger

I am thinking probably Bora Bora next time. Or Bermuda or Atlantis.

No Paycheck?

Well, this sucks. At about 5pm, Dino got home and found no paycheck in our mailbox... Luckily, I got through to the recruiting firm before they closed and found out that I had evidentally made an adding mistake (who would think that would happen after a 46-hour work week plus 8 hours of commute?)... ok, I could understand them wanting to get that fixed first... but... Why didn't they call me Friday went I sent in my paycheck to let me know there was a problem? Or perhaps more realistic, why didn't they call me yesterday?

Yes, that's right, instead of sending me a paycheck yesterday, or calling me to let me know that they were not sending it -- they didn't even realize there was a problem until I called and asked where my check was! They assured me they would figure out what they were going to do and call me back. 2 hours later, no call, and they were no longer answering their phones.

That really sucks. And to top it off, I have already done 21 hours this week (plus 3 hours of commute), and it has only been 2 days... I better be really careful on FRI.

Source Control?

Well, I have been using Perforce for quite some time, but lately have been thinking of switching to CVS. I setup CVS yesterday (as per defcon1 instructions), but for some reason, WinCVS seems unable to import the new module (ie: new project). Not sure why really...

Looking through the complexity, I think this is something my new filesystem would make a really good replacement for... but, realistically, I should be doing source control to DEVELOP that... oh well.

EOTI Corporate Forum

For any of those people trying to figure out where the EOTI Corporate forum is, it is located at http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/282090

For anyone else, it is membership only, so I wouldn't bother unless you know you will be given access.

ISP Outage

Well, it appears that we lost our DSL connection at about 2pm today. Just got it back after 9pm this evening.

Basically, Aracnet shut us off for not paying our bill. Once we were back online, checked PayTrust, and it seems we have *NEVER* received a bill. I don't mean that we didn't get our LAST bill, but we have never received ANY bill.

I would think that if someone was going to shut off your service for lack of payment, they should at least tell you how much you owe and by when. ESPECIALLY since our ISP has us pre-pay 6 months at a time.

Anyways, everything should be fine now.

Finances and The House

Well, I am a little concerned. We sent mortgage payments on 7/26 (via Paytrust.com)... Their website keeps screwing up our account, so although both the 1st and 2nd mortgage have the same biller/website/paymentAddress, they keep disabling the epay, online bills, and status for the 1st mortgage -- as well as keep sending me emails saying that the password is incorrect... Which is really wierd, since the 2nd mortgage uses the same login information...

Anyways, they sent the 2nd mortgage payment via epay, and the 1st by check (which IMHO is really friggin stupid)... So, though the 2nd got cashed the next day, it has been over a week and the 1st still hasn't been cashed. As of today, that means it is too late to stop foreclosure... My only hope is that they will process the check before charging us $10k in legal fees. If foreclosure does start, or if this happens again, I think I will drop paytrust, though I have been using them for.. what.. 4-5 years now? I just need some place reliable, and it is starting to appear like their service no longer is. When I originally signed up, it was PayMyBills through ETrade -- and I have been having problems and complications with their service ever since they merged. Really sucks, because the concept of the service is great.

Hail Eris!

The Manchurian Candidate

So, we went and watched the Manchurian Candidate this weekend. It was good, but I was actually expecting better. I was planning on writing a lot more details here, but... nah...
