Orthopedic Surgeon

Well, I just got back from my appointment with Dr. Thomas. He took an xray of my hip and my knee. He said he doesn't see any sign of avascular necrosis but that I am susceptible for it because of taking prednisone in the past.

At this point, I am going to heal up from my surgery and get myself a primary care.

  1. XRays dont show Avascular Necrosis in stage 1. An MRI (preferred), CAT, or Bone scan is needed. Its possible that Avascular Necrosis will not show up in an Xray until it's in the 3rd stage. I only know because I am having ortho surgery in March for AVN (Avascular Necrosis) due to steroids (Dexamethosone) similar to prednizone.

  2. Yeah, everything I read said that MRI was the best option for diagnosis...

However, the reason I went to the Orthopedic Surgeon in the first place was because the Urologists thought they saw signs of A.N. in an XRay they took. I figured that if one doctor could accidentally see signs of it in an xray, that a second opinion should only need xrays in order to see it.

What were the signs that tipped you off that you had it?
