I have had this problem for years, even back with the first version of Doom.
Things I have noticed:
1) doesn't seem to happen with Top Down
2) takes longer to happen with semi-3D (Isometric, etc)
3) doesn't seem to matter if the graphics are great or crap
4) doesn't happen with Full Immersion (a'la Dactyl Nightmare)
My guess is that it is due to having different refresh rates in your vision at the same time (much like that problem some people have with flourescent lights). Basically, if in front of you is WAY out of sync with your peripheal....

PC World | Dutch track counterfeits via printer serial numbers
You know, I really liked Canon -- but it is this kinda shit that made me decide not to buy a single Intel product in the last 8 years... You know, I have no interest in printing counterfit bills -- but this is the kinda stuff that the government does to prevent unwanted rebellion... You print some flier that shows what BS the government has been up to, and they look at it as say "Check the Canon DB for serial number 12345678". Bullshit.

Cascadia National Party: Policy and News
Looking over their platform, there were two things that bothered me:
1) Any recipient of monetary welfare and unemployment must give back their time to the community or state. Umm, I thought the Unemployment CAME from me putting money into it?
2) Federal Assembly It seems that the problem we have in the US is that we are a Republic not a Democracy, it seems that their platform would continue that tradition?
However, among many many other good things, I saw these and had to smile:
1) Teacher pay scales comparable to other professionals with similar education and responsibilities. If it weren't for Teachers getting paid 1/2 what I am used to, I would actually PREFER to be a teacher.
2) On the Cascadian National system, there should be one lane designated with no speed limit. The remaining lanes would be subjected to speed limits set by the states. OH! I am SOooooo there!
3) The CNP firmly supports the separation of church and state. No official oath shall be taken with the mention of "God". However, the person in question taking the oath can request their book of faith or symbol of faith to take the oath. The CNP also respects the freedom of worship for all. I think even my dad could agree with that.

Cascadia and Jefferson
Though not new ideas, interesting. Question is, would Cascadia and Jefferson end up going to war? When I lived in Northern California, we had never heard of the state of Jefferson, but we thought it would be a good idea. When I moved to Southern Oregon, I found out about Jefferson and thought it was a good idea. This election was the first time that I thought that the state of Jefferson would not be ultra-conservative. If that were the case, I definitely would not want to be there. Of course, now I live in an area that would be considered part of Cascadia, so I guess all is good until Jefferson tries to impose their anti-humanitarian ideals on Cascadia.
Some do emigrate away from the US
Over the last few months, many have included me on their email lists to discuss the political issues... I got this last night...
Well, Elizabeth and I are leaving at about 5am tomorrow morning up to
Port Angeles, where we will catch the Black Ball Ferry in order to meet
with our Immigration Advisor. We'll talk, we'll give him money, and then
we'll catch the ferry over to Vancouver and check that out.
It isn't *absolutely* certain we'll emigrate to BC, but it looks pretty
damn likely - like a 95% chance. I've given notice at Free Geek and they
hired my replacement last night.
Let's face it, it really is getting scary here. But that's not why I
want to move.
The reality is that the US is the most war-driven nation in the planet's
history. Columbus practiced genocide on the locals because they didn't
have stacks of gold for him. Since the very first settlement in this
country, there has not been a single decade when we have not used
military force against another people. And now we are "mercy killing"
unarmed civilians in their place of worship. The next Attorney General
wrote the memo authorizing torture. The new Education Secretary is
committed to "abstinence only" sex education. Reporters are being fired
and jailed for their investigations. The "media" are deliberately
covering up the e-voting scandal and on buried in this morning's
Oregonian on page A16, Alexander Putin announced that Russia has a new
grade of nuclear weapons systems that surpass anything we have - MAD has
once again become Doctrine. And the people of Oregon has written hatred
and homophobia into their constitution.
After the Quakers initially settled Pennsylvania and made "the only
treaty never sworn and the only treaty never broken", the non-Quaker
settlers came in waves, crossed over the Adirondacks and massacred the
First Nation folk. When the natives fought back, the settlers came to
Philadelphia and demanded that the legislature "protect" them by wiping
out the natives. The Quakers in the legislature were faced with the fact
that they were now a minority among a very blood-thirsty majority and
that they could debate the issue and lose. They realized that they would
be acquiescing in genocide if they remained a part of the Pennsylvania
legislature and quit en masse.
We have dropped all facade of democracy, civil liberties, and justice at
home and abroad. We are at war with the world and with ourselves
internally. If I remain an American, even if I dissent, I am personally
profiting from the exploitation and genocide by my government of every
thing and every people that might prevent the wealthy from becoming even
more so. That profit comes from things like the lower prices in the
almost ALL stores, driven by Wal-Mart at the expense of the benefits
gained by the labor movement. That profit comes from the rape of the
environment that gives me cheap gas prices. That profit comes from my
going along with the program, even while I bitch and moan about it.
As a Conscientious Objector, I will not go into war as a medic, saving
soldier's lives just so they could go back and kill some more - but with
the self-justification that I didn't pull the trigger. As a
Conscientious Objector, I will not cross a picket line or break a
boycott just because it is inconvenient.
As a Conscientious Objector, I cannot any longer give any form of
acquiescence to the engines of our economy in their rape and murder of
our world.
We are leaving. Not because we are afraid of Gonzales nee Ashcroft. Not
because of the defunding of our public schools. Not because of Measure
37 is going to turn Oregon into a giant strip mall.
We are leaving so we can experience life in a truly free society. We are
leaving so we can breath freedom and live in peace with the world. We
are leaving for a place that shares our ideals.
We will still visit you and we will, of course, welcome you when you
decide you can take no more. I have lived on three continents and I have
always returned to Portland. Someday, Cascadia will be independent.
Someday, we will return.

Looks like Hollywood is once again writing Trojan/Worms to seek-n-destroy your computer. I guess now that Bush got more people into the Senate, they will make it legal for the MPAA to corrupt your system. Great. Too bad we don't have a computer version of Human Rights, so that we could sue them for inhumanity (or whatever) against our computers. What right do they have to "seek and destroy". A friend of mine pointed me to this test. He said to take the test for yourself in your current real-life situation and to not read too much into the questions, just answer them.

Close-Minded BS
You know, I am sick and tired of close minded people telling me what to think. It is a bunch of fucking BS.
For the last few months, my mother-in-law has been sending me Pro-Bush email after email. Any time we try to show her any facts, she says that they are propaganda without even looking at them. Ok, she is a bit older, perhaps she is one of those people so stuck in their ways that they can't accept the truth.
But her daughter (my sister-in-law) is another matter. She is the only other republican I know (which she wasn't anything near being republican a few years ago). She doesn't have old-age to account for her close-minded attitude. In fact, she only has her mother and new husband to account for her new mindset. Don't believe me, ask one of her friends (most of the people with blogs to the left). They have all been saying that.
So, the other day my mother-in-law sent my wife an email talking about how disappointed she was that Oregon was blue on the map instead of red, and how it was all of those strong liberal democrats in Portland that caused the problem. My wife felt that the email targetted her specifically (and I felt probably me also, though I am not a democrat). Interestingly enough, this is one of the few political emails her mom did NOT send to me -- probably assuming she wouldn't like my reaction. My wife, on the other hand, usually tries to be really nice so as to not hurt her moms feelings. In this case, she replied (to all) telling her to keep her republican ideals away from us (and mention specifics about anti-gay, bible-banging, etc).
So, my wifes sister (the other republican) started chatting with me today, telling me that I wouldn't believe the hurtful email she sent. Then we started to discuss the fact that my wife feels that her mother and sister are always trying to control her life, and getting pissed off when she doesn't let them.
A little background. A few months ago, they both (same day) tried to convince her that she should give up college and her career plans and work as a flagger for the traffic department. Both of them said the same thing, almost word for word -- but denied talking to each other about it. Then, they got into a little discussion and haven't spoken to each other since. Dino's been waiting for an apology, which will never come.
And then the day of our wedding came up... On that day, Dino was out with her dad getting stuff for the wedding, and her mom told me she should just shoot herself in the head because Dino was pissing her off so much for taking so long. I wanted to slap her so hard - that is not something to joke about - especially to the groom on his wedding day -- and she didn't even say it as a joke. Dino's sister (Lori) said that Dino wasn't appreciating all that her mom had done for her wedding day. Ok, granted her mom spent like $300 for the wedding -- but we paid like $25000 and did everything ourselves. Not only did we organize everything, pay for everything, etc - but we even put them up in a motel that we paid for. So, no matter how you look at it, that comment was not in the least bit justified.
So Lori goes off to explain that Dino isn't following her own path, but convincing herself that my path is her path. If that is true, it would be hard to explain how she was on that path before we got together. But then again, Lori did drop music and singing to work at the administration office where her husband is going to school. Of course, now Lori wants to work in the film industry, not like it has anything to do with her husbands goals or anything.
So, Lori starts going off about how Dino's whole personality has changed because of me. Interesting. Dino has always been somewhat of a rebel, standing up for what she believed in. Of course, Lori has switched from Punk and Singing to a Republican in the film industry. But, of course, Lori must be right. I have turned Dino into... hmm? What?
So then Lori starts going off about how Dino becomes whinny whenever someone says something she doesn't agree with. I pointed out that Dino replied by standing up for what she believed in. Of course, the whole conversation did start off with Lori being pissed off at what Dino had said. Interesting.
Then she said that Bush won, and even had 48% of Portland. I started providing links (like many posted elsewhere here) that show proof of voter and election fraud. She just said that we were so deluded, that it was all propaganda (without even looking at them), and then said the conversation is over.
So, looks like she is as close-minded as her mother about politics. That's OK. Eudora has a nice filtering feature.

VOTERGATE
This is friggin nuts. Download the video and take a look (they have a low and high bandwidth version on the site).
So, it appears that there are 3 companies that provide voting machines. Two of them are owned by Texan brothers and account for 80% of the votes. The other one was shown to give the wrong candidate the votes. Is it any wonder than Bush keeps winning?
One part of the video shows how to completely swap who the winner is in less than 90 seconds. Not too surprising since any 12-year old kid can spend 5 minutes on Google and figure out how to hack the Access database used (even how to get the passwords).
There are also an interesting clip that shows that the Washington Secretary of State illegally signed off on them, and that the voters have no recourse available.

So, it appears that there are 3 companies that provide voting machines. Two of them are owned by Texan brothers and account for 80% of the votes. The other one was shown to give the wrong candidate the votes. Is it any wonder than Bush keeps winning?
One part of the video shows how to completely swap who the winner is in less than 90 seconds. Not too surprising since any 12-year old kid can spend 5 minutes on Google and figure out how to hack the Access database used (even how to get the passwords).
There are also an interesting clip that shows that the Washington Secretary of State illegally signed off on them, and that the voters have no recourse available.

" and "Every worker who has lost his or her job and qualifies for unemployment benefits will get more help, and many will qualify for new, more flexible Personal Re-employment Accounts, which provide a bonus if they find work quickly." Then why is it as a currently unemployed citizen, I can not even apply for unemployment until January? In fact, the Oregon Employment Department specifically told me that they do NOT have any extended benefits for the first time in years.

U.S.'s new Iraq Dictator?
CBS was reporting today that the newly appointed Iraqi President has declared Martial Law. The interesting bit was when they said that it is the strictess since Saddam Hussein. So, did we put yet another Dictator in power? Guess in a couple years we will have to attack him as being some evil terrorist.
Of course, they also commented about how Afghanistan is releasing terrorists that plan on attacking the US. Aren't we supposedly allies with them?
Personally, I think this whole thing is just another cog in the US oil-war.

Well, we thought that NC and OH problems might have illegally caused Bush to win. Looks like there was more to it than that...

- LaPorte, Michigan discounted 50,000 voters
- Columbus, Ohio voting machines gave Bush an extra 4,000 votes
- Broward County, Florida voting machines were counting backwards
- precincts in New Mexico gave provisional ballots that will never be counted to as many as 10% of all their voters

Haven't looked it over much yet, but figured that I know enough people interested in game development that I will just go ahead and post it.

Most publishers, however, seem to ignore this. They don't believe the traditional adventure game could make enough money anymore. In an on-the-move society where instant gratification is a must, the gaming public seems to need to always keep their mouse fingers twitching in blazing first person shoot-outs and exhilarating car chases.
This has caused the market to be flooded with mindless action oriented games, leaving us adventure gamers pretty much out in the cold.
Fortunately for us, there are still people out there who do believe in this genre. And that number of people is increasing rapidly for the past few years. We've seen very interesting projects developing by independent studios, sometimes funded by small publishers. Also fans have been creating their own 'amateur' game projects, some good, some bad, some finished, many abandoned.
Adventure Developers is not only here to tell you about all of these interesting games and developing projects, but is also a source for news. Furthermore, we're a place to discuss games, projects and other issues with our visitors. Our forums are available for developers as well, to promote their projects, ask for help, find members for their teams, and more. We also publish articles, tutorials, and other features, sometimes written by (recognised) industry professionals.
In short: we're a place for both those who're interested in playing (independently developed) adventures and for those interested in developing their own games.

HD-TV card for your PC
Since this card ignores the upcoming Broadcast Flag, it is probably going to be one of your last chances to build something that can record from cable. I have been debating making a MythTV to be used at home -- and this one would at least allow me to record tv shows (unlike any on the market starting next year)... We shall see.

Many of us know that current internet protocols suck, for one reason or another. It isn't that their design was initially bad, just that we have outgrown them.
Well, I guess with Micro$haft claiming patent ownership (and knowing how Homeland Security has been helping out these poor defensless billionaires), perhaps we should write new standards. Something better.
Of course, if we use something like GPL or Toys-4-Techs licensing, we can immediately pull their licenses if they sue anyone over any of our designs.

Joe gets up at 6am and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning
coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought
for minimum water-quality standards.
With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His
medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to
ensure their safety and they work as advertised. All but $10 of his
medications is paid by his employer's medical plan because some liberal
union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe
gets it too.
He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to
eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat
packing industry.
In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly
labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because
some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his
body and how much it contained.
Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is
clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to
stop industries from polluting our air. He walks on the government-provided
sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It
saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some
fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives
everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his workday. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical
benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal
union member fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer
pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to
call the union.
If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get workers
compensation check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose
his home because of a temporary misfortune.
It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some
bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FDIC because some godless
liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined
the banking system before the Great Depression.
Joe has to pay Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal
student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the country
would be better off if he was educated and earned more
money over his lifetime. Joe forgets that in addition to his federally
subsidized student loan, he attended a state funded university.
Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm
home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the

Then we notice that there was election problems in North Carolina, which in at least one county they said:
"Officials said 3,005 early votes were stored, but 4,530 were lost. " and "The loss of the votes didn't appear to change the outcome of county races "... Umm, excuse me? Over half of the votes weren't counted and it wouldn't make any difference?
Then, we see election fraud in Ohio... Specifically, "a computer error involving one voting-machine cartridge gave President Bush 3,893 extra votes in a Gahanna precinct"... Hmm, that is a lot of extra votes.
So, let's just say that the extra 3893 votes, and the missing 4530 votes couldn't have swung either of those districts, or the 35 electoral votes they represent... Are we to believe that those are the only two districts nationwide involved in illegally handing the election to Bush?

Local Elections
Well, at least for Washington County, all the votes have been counted. I am a little curious why the Washington County votes included information about Portland, but...
It doesn't seem real. I can't believe these results are from Oregon. Banning Gay Marriage and not allowing Medical Marijuana Patients to get their medication from the state. Very odd.

Exit-Poll Data?

I know that saying that I own a few of his books -- or that the college requires a few of his books -- wouldn't help. How about this. He wrote Minix which is what Linux was originally based off? Does that help?
He has some really good comments about what the world thinks of the US (because he is abroad) as well as this little comment that is OH so tempting:
Many people have told me that if [insert name of candidate] wins or there is a draft, they are going to leave the country. If you really mean it and are interested in getting a Masters degree in Computer Systems, you might consider a Masters program I am running. It focuses on operating systems, networks, distributed computing, parallel computing, grids, multiagent systems and other systems areas. Knowledgeable observers consider my group to be one of the top three systems groups in Europe. The program is entirely in English and we have students from all over the world. It is also relatively cheap as Masters programs go. Tuition is about $1800 per year for residents of the European Union and about $6000 per year for everyone else. Why is it so cheap? Because taxes are high here (the top rate is 52%) and education is subsidized by the government. Republicans and Democrats are equally welcome, provided they are smart and work hard. Admission is competitive.

Election?
Well, it's that time again.
Everyone who would probably read this probably already knows I am voting for Kerry. Not because I like him (I don't), but because I hate Bush. I considered voting for a third party, but to be honest, I just really wanted to vote NOT-Bush, and voting 3rd party doesn't do that (since we don't use Instant Runoff Voting).
The thing is, this is the first presidential election I have voted in. I was going to vote back when Clinton was first elected, but unfortunately, he was named the winner when we still had 10 hours left to vote (California), so there was no point. Funny thing is, they showed him loosing the popular vote when he won. Of course, when Bush Jr became president, the same thing happened.
After Clinton won, I started doing research, and learned how little my vote really mattered. This country is NOT a democracy, it is a representative republic. What does that mean? That means that not a single person reading this actually voted for Kerry or Bush -- they voted for the Democratic or Republic Slate of Electors. I don't know about other states, but in Oregon the bubble was actually next to the name of the party. As such, it was very difficult for me to decide to vote -- and even more difficult to not vote for someone I like.
So, here's the kicker. I am hoping that Kerry wins the popular vote by like 15%, but is NOT named President.
Why? So that people will open their eyes, stand up for what they believe in, and revolt. Ok, so realistically that comment is likely to get Homeland Security to show up at my door -- after all, they evidentally bust people for LiveJournal comments and making toys like Rubix Cubes. But the truth of the matter is that the government no longer represents the people -- that should be obvious from how often large portions of the population rise up in protest. It should also be obvious when you ask someone their opinion of our government, and whether they think it has been corrupted. I think the majority of the population believes that politicians start off trying to do the right thing -- but end up being corrupted.
So, what would a revolution accomplish? It could allow this to once again become a government by the people for the people. It could become a democracy.
In fact, I think that a large portion of our populace believes that a revolution of some sort is necessary, but is afraid that: 1) it can't be done; 2) the government would attack their own people (which we have seen repeatedly by the police force); 3) that it wouldn't do any good because the new people in charge would end up just as corrupt.
These are some interesting points. #1 is a hard one to dispute -- because unless people are willing to try, they are right that it can't be done. #2 is one that has a lot of merit, because we see repeatedly how the police (like the Portland Police Department under Mayor Katz) attacked the public -- I mean, what were cops thinking when they maced that baby?
But #3 is the important one. How is it possible that the people in control do not reflect the will of the people? I mean, that is what is required for corruption, right? It isn't corruption if they actually serve and represent the will of the people? So, how do we stop that? By becoming a real democracy. Let the people's voice DIRECTLY decide. Quit having us vote for people to make the decisions -- because that is what leads to corruption.
This is probably a good time to point out one of Thomas Jefferson's quotes... I grabbed this off of here:
"Societies exist under three forms, sufficiently distinguishable. 1. Without government, as among our Indians. 2. Under governments, wherein the will of everyone has a just influence; as is the case in England, in a slight degree, and in our States, in a great one. 3. Under governments of force; as is the case in all other monarchies, and in most of the other republics. To have an idea of the curse of existence under these last, they must be seen. It is a government of wolves over sheep.
So, let me ask. Which one do you think we fall under now?
1) No government -- I don't think anyone thinks that is us
2) The will of everyone has a just influence -- sure doesn't seem that way, right?
3) Government of force... hmm... I think everyone would agree that is where we are right now. And what did Jefferson say about that type of government (our type)? To have an idea of the curse of existence under these last, they must be seen. It is a government of wolves over sheep. I think we have seen that.

Ok, ok. I know it is a lot of quotes. I have never felt very patriotic (considering how the U.S. usually behaves as schoolyard bullies in the international arena), but reading Thomas Jeffersons quotes make me feel like perhaps I am more patriotic than those flag-waving politicians that are leading this country.
Everyone who would probably read this probably already knows I am voting for Kerry. Not because I like him (I don't), but because I hate Bush. I considered voting for a third party, but to be honest, I just really wanted to vote NOT-Bush, and voting 3rd party doesn't do that (since we don't use Instant Runoff Voting).
The thing is, this is the first presidential election I have voted in. I was going to vote back when Clinton was first elected, but unfortunately, he was named the winner when we still had 10 hours left to vote (California), so there was no point. Funny thing is, they showed him loosing the popular vote when he won. Of course, when Bush Jr became president, the same thing happened.
After Clinton won, I started doing research, and learned how little my vote really mattered. This country is NOT a democracy, it is a representative republic. What does that mean? That means that not a single person reading this actually voted for Kerry or Bush -- they voted for the Democratic or Republic Slate of Electors. I don't know about other states, but in Oregon the bubble was actually next to the name of the party. As such, it was very difficult for me to decide to vote -- and even more difficult to not vote for someone I like.
So, here's the kicker. I am hoping that Kerry wins the popular vote by like 15%, but is NOT named President.
Why? So that people will open their eyes, stand up for what they believe in, and revolt. Ok, so realistically that comment is likely to get Homeland Security to show up at my door -- after all, they evidentally bust people for LiveJournal comments and making toys like Rubix Cubes. But the truth of the matter is that the government no longer represents the people -- that should be obvious from how often large portions of the population rise up in protest. It should also be obvious when you ask someone their opinion of our government, and whether they think it has been corrupted. I think the majority of the population believes that politicians start off trying to do the right thing -- but end up being corrupted.
So, what would a revolution accomplish? It could allow this to once again become a government by the people for the people. It could become a democracy.
In fact, I think that a large portion of our populace believes that a revolution of some sort is necessary, but is afraid that: 1) it can't be done; 2) the government would attack their own people (which we have seen repeatedly by the police force); 3) that it wouldn't do any good because the new people in charge would end up just as corrupt.
These are some interesting points. #1 is a hard one to dispute -- because unless people are willing to try, they are right that it can't be done. #2 is one that has a lot of merit, because we see repeatedly how the police (like the Portland Police Department under Mayor Katz) attacked the public -- I mean, what were cops thinking when they maced that baby?
But #3 is the important one. How is it possible that the people in control do not reflect the will of the people? I mean, that is what is required for corruption, right? It isn't corruption if they actually serve and represent the will of the people? So, how do we stop that? By becoming a real democracy. Let the people's voice DIRECTLY decide. Quit having us vote for people to make the decisions -- because that is what leads to corruption.
This is probably a good time to point out one of Thomas Jefferson's quotes... I grabbed this off of here:

Under governments, wherein the will of everyone has a just influence; as is the case in England, in a slight degree, and in our States, in a great one. 3. So, let me ask. Which one do you think we fall under now?
