Personally, I want to be able to log into the site and view who I voted for (history) as well as who won and by what margin. In fact, it would be nice if I could even do my own research via the site -- like, how many people in Washington County voted this way or that -- without getting enough detail to identify anyone.Malachi de AElfwealdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09298673505665552268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7770584.post-1122482750278697282005-07-27T09:45:00.000-07:002005-07-27T09:45:00.000-07:00Here's another reason that we should encourage usi...Here's another reason that we should encourage using our system ALONG with the existing system at first:

nov2truth.org - Take Action for Transparent, Voter-Verified Elections in California
"On a purely fiscal basis, former Secretary of State Kevin Shelley's office wouldn't go so far as to throw Diebold out of the state. T...One other problem with the BlueScreen Democracy. They mention that they chose GPL so that people can redistribute with or without modification. For a nationwide voting mechanism, this is a severe problem. If we are to ensure that nothing is corrupt, we can not be expected to inspect all of the source code for every single version out there. Specifically, we can not allow Ohio or Texas or Florida to have a slightly altered version, because then it is highly likely that no one would catch that their specific version has been corrupted.

The ONLY way it will work for a nationwide voting system is if everyone is helping ensure the security and accuracy of ONE single version. If lack of forking makes it "non-OpenSource", so be it -- it is more important to be responsible to the citizens than be held hostage to marketing buzz words.Malachi de AElfwealdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09298673505665552268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7770584.post-1122481183624843402005-07-27T09:19:00.000-07:002005-07-27T09:19:00.000-07:00BlueScreen Democracy looks pretty good, but if you...BlueScreen Democracy looks pretty good, but if you go to their software link, they mention one thing that concerns me (for their system and ours).

They mention that privacy requires that no voter can prove who they voted for -- to prevent buying votes. While I can understand that, it also means that they are preventing the voters from being able to prove that the system is corrupted -- ie: NO paper trail. That is a serious problem.

http://www.bluescreendemocracy.org/index.php
http://bluescreen.sourceforge.net/Malachi de AElfwealdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09298673505665552268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7770584.post-1122410844384225292005-07-26T13:47:00.000-07:002005-07-26T13:47:00.000-07:00I have been thinking that our system would even al...I have been thinking that our system would even allow the users of it to use Instant Runoff Voting, even if the election we are participating in is winner-take-all... how? we do IRV then computer the winner, then pass that information on.

Obviously, we would rather that the parent election use IRV too, but... it is a start... and if they switch to our system, then it takes no effort on their part to use IRV.

This page explains how Instant Runoff Voting works, but I wonder if there is a better approach:

http://www.fairvote.org/?page=178Malachi de AElfwealdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09298673505665552268noreply@blogger.com
